    • John Odom Sharplin was born about 1827 in Amite County, Mississippi. He purchased 40.57
      acres of land on 1 Sep 1848 in the Columbus, Mississippi Land Office. (SE 1/4 of the NE 1/4 of Section 15, Township 11N,
      Range 6E, Choctaw Baseline) He purchased 40 acres of land on 25 Nov 1848 in Leake County, Mississippi. (W 1/2 of S 1/2
      of NE 1/4 Sec 9 T11 R6E) He purchased 39.39 acres on 1 Oct 1859 in the Columbus, Mississippi Land Office.84 (SW 1/4 of
      the NE 1/4 of Section 2, Township 12N, Range 6E, Choctaw Baseline) He appeared in the census in 1860 in Leake County,
      Mississippi.85 He was living next door to his brother, Noah. He died on 23 May 1862 in Richmond, Virginia.30 He died in
      General Hospital, Camp Wilder, Richmond, VA of rubeola. He was shown as being 42 years of age. Another document
      showed that he was sick with typhoid fever in June of 1862. He served in the military during the Civil War.86 He was a private
      in Company G of the 21st Mississippi Infantry, Confederate States Army. He enlisted on 5 March 1862 in Thomastown,
      Madison County, Mississippi under Lt. J. P. Mills.
      John Odom Sharplin and Stacy A. ? were married about 1845. Stacy A. ? was born about 1815 in Louisiana. She appeared in
      the census in 1866 in Leake County, Mississippi.87,88 She appeared in the census in 1870 in Beat 4, Attala County,
      Mississippi. The first three children listed were probably Stacy's from a previous marriage.
