      Per David Rountree.
      John Seymour Pickett III, was a pioneer farmer, cattleman and builder of Duval and Nassau Counties. He also srved in the Civil War for about a year. In October, 1823, Doggett contracted with the couny to build a courthouse. It was located on a lot given by John Brady, the building wasn't erected until the summer of 1825. It was 40 feet square,two stories high with a basement of 10 feet in length. It faced south and waslaid out and framed by Seymour Pickett and the people of the county voluntarily gathered, and under Mr. Pickett's able direction, in two days raised. it.
