      Notes for ELIAS FORT STEWART.
He was about medium heightwith dark eyes and black curly hair and high forehead with a straight nose. He studied medicine at home and bcame a successful practitioner in his own family and among the people of his section. When he first married they lived about five miles from Blackshear, then they moved to Wayne County near the little Buffalo Creek. The third place Elias moved to was about five miles from Blackshear, Ware Co. Colquitt and Eleanor were born there (1845 and 1847).

My brothers and sister boarded at Grandmother Strickland's Monday through Friday. From there he went to school Trader's Hill, GA and from there he went to Oxford, GA.,where he finished. My father (Elias) kept a store at his home and my mother'syoungest brother, Joel Strickland, clerked for him and boarded at our house.
