  • Notes
    • Twin to William.

Her occupation was Housewife. Her religion: Baptist (allwere Baptist.sdlh). Rumored as much as 1/2 indian ancestry.

Note: Martha first married John William Newman November 7, 1843 in Chambers County, Alabama. (John W. Newman and Martha Jamison). Surety was Andrew J. Adams who also witnessed to Martha being 18 years of age. John W.'s father Martin Newman appeared and offered no objection to John's marriage. There had been some problems in the marriage including John W. coming to Texas and squandering the money with which he was to buy family land and staying and living with a widow in San Augustine in Shelby County before Martha had desertion charges filed and he was to be taken back to Alabama by marshalls. The couple was back together at the time that John W. Newman died from a gunshot wound between 1853 when son James Newmanwas born and December of 1859 when Martha married William. Some Newman researchers show John W's death in 1860, so there is uncertainity about his exact date of death. John W. was the son of John Martin Newman and Flora Ann Willis of Tallapoosa County, Alabama, Shelby County, Texas, and Anglina County, Texas. Martha was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Ann Adams Jimmerson of Georgia. Her maternal grandparents were Absalom Adams and Elizabeth of Georgia. (He believed Elizabeth Reid, but that is not confirmed.)

      Per Patsy Archer.
Martha married John William Newman, with the consent of Andrew J. Adams.
