    Alt Parents
    • 1) I've listed George Stockman as a child of Peter Stockman and his first wife (whoever Peter's first wife was) rather than Catherine Epting, his 2nd wife. I'm still trying to establish the date of marriage of Peter and Catherine. My listing George as a child of Peter's 1st wife is based on Peter and Catherine marrying abt 1784, the year Peter became legal guardian of the Folk children Catherine had with her 1st husband, Johann Jacob Folk. If Catherine Elizabeth Epting (Folk) was either living with or married to Johannes Peter Stockman sometime between the death of her first husband, Johan Jacob Folk, who died in 1777 and the date that Johannes Peter Stockman became the formal guardian for Catherine's children from her former marriage to Jacob Folk, then George Stockman could be the child of the union of Johannes Peter Stockman and Catherine Elizabeth Epting.

On 26 Dec 1795 apparently this same transaction was recorded again but again Peter and his wife Catherine signed the deed. peter Stockman's wife was Barbara when land was sold in the 1804 deed reported above. In 1799 when John Zeigler died, Peter Stockman and Barbara Stockman were appointed administrators of his estate. It appears that Peter Stockman had more than one wife and possibly three. Prior to 1784 when Peter assumed guardianship of the Folk children at least two of his children were born. These two, Anna maria and George may be children by a first wife. It is probably that in 1784 Peter married Catharine Folk, widow of Jacob and daughter of John Adam Epting, although this marriage may have taken place earlier. It is unlikely that it occurred early enough for daughter Anna Maria Stockman to have been a daughter of Catherine Epting Folk since her first husband died in 1774 [her husband's death has since been determined to be 1777 - Steve Mears] The first of Peter's wives whose name we know is Catherine who was Peter's wife in 1795. On December 17, 1784 Peter Stockman was made guardian of Jacob Folk's minor children, John Adam, Elizabeth, and Jacob Junior ... It is likely that John Adam and Jacob Jr. Folk were living with Peter Stockman in 1790. If so, John Adam was 20 years old and Jacob Jr was 18 years old ... his first wife died and he married the Widow Folk. This is the reason that Peter became guardian of the Folk Children. "

    Children
    • 1) It is generally accepted that Catherine Epting and Peter Stockman had 2 children together:
      1 - Anna Maria Stockman
      2 - John George Stockman

      2) In support of this:
      a) 4) "Peter Dickert, b. ca 1773, d. 1854, m. Anna Maria Stockman, b. 7 Apr 1783, d. 19 Apr 1850, d/o Peter Stockman and Catherine Epting Folk, widow of Jacob Folk." Source: Dickert, Peter Family Bio fm Dutch Fork Family Bios.
