    • Ref; Baptized in Monroe Mission, Pontotoc Co. Mississippi , 5 April 1834; Religion unknown.
      Ref; Listed as resident census report Lowndes Co. Mississippi, 1836, 1840, 1850.
      Ref; Settled amoung the Chickasaw's in 1796, but later served as postmaster at Paris, Tennessee, and as Commander of Fort Hampton, Alabama. Was sub-agen for the Chickasaws form 1829-1837, was Deputy postmaster in the Chickasaw county in 1832, and ran a tavern near Pontotoc, Mississippi, in 1837. After removal , he located to Columbus, Mississippi.
      There is a Possibility that this "John Allen is the same "John Allen" who married Betsy Love.
      In susequent work, don Martini points out that the actual name of Betsy Love's husband is "James" Allen and not "John" Allen . the same James Allen who first married Susie Colbert.
